Want to be happy? Buy the flowers

That’s right, ladies.  All that money you’ve been “wasting” on flowers over the years?  Well, get ready to shove it in your husband’s face because it turns out we’re really onto something here.

If you’re anything like me, you don’t really need an excuse to buy yourself a weekly bouquet or four.  But I’m here to arm you with the facts, should you need to defend your pricey little habit in the future.

Let’s talk health benefits.  A 2008 study actually found patients in hospital rooms brightened with flowers and potted plants needed less post-operative pain medication, had lower systolic blood pressure and pulse rates, were less anxious and tired, and generally were in a more positive psychological state than patients in rooms without plants.

But wait, there’s more.

An article on Teleflora.com reports flowers can also help with memory and concentration.  That’s because plants oxygenate the air, which boosts brain cells and can make you feel like your best self.  Flowers can also help with relaxation, which is probably why so many people turn to gardening as a way to de-stress and unwind.

See?!  It’s science.

It’s become kind of a Sunday ritual for me to pick up a bouquet or two of flowers while I’m at the grocery store.  When I get home I split them up into several vases and put them in rooms throughout the house – even bathrooms!

You guys, it makes such a huge difference.  Flowers instantly bring life and warmth to a space and make a house feel more like a home.

So go ahead and treat yourself.  After all, your health could be at stake.
